5 road trips to take this summer with Slamwich!

19th June 2026

Whilst we aren’t always blessed with the weather in Northern Ireland, one thing we can guarantee is some of the most beautiful landscapes and scenic drives that make us a popular tourist attraction for the rest of the world!

But when was the last time you were a tourist in your own neck of the woods? We’ve pulled together some of the best road trips you can take this summer in N.I - obviously stopping off for a Slamwich along the way!

Mussenden Temple / Downhill & Benone Beach

An iconic landmark in Northern Ireland, Mussenden Temple overlooks the North Down coastline providing panoramic views AI could only dream of! With a little bit of history, this is the ideal spot for a family walk or even taking the dog with you for a scenic stroll. A relatively easy walk, this is the perfect opportunity to blow off the cobwebs and get out of the house - rain hail or shine! Once your walk is finished, why not head down to Downhill Beach - a beautiful spot to visit any time of year to take in the coastline closer up. Whether you’re on the way or coming back home - stop off and treat yourself to one of our delicious Slamwiches for the drive! A big eat - our Slamwich pairs delicious salted caramel ice cream wedged between two biscuits, with one end dipped in indulgent chocolate and topped with a salted caramel crunch. We know - our mouths are watering too!

Cuilcagh Boardwalk

This is one walk that certainly deserves a treat after! With 450 steps to climb, your step counter will be in overdrive hiking this stunning trail also known as the ‘Stairway to Heaven’. Around 7.4km long and taking around 2 - 3 ½ hours to climb, the boardwalk is sure to test your fitness levels but has one of the most rewarding views when you eventually get to the top. Whilst we can’t advise you to bring one of our ice creams with you (melted ice cream is no fun!) - we’d definitely say call in for one on the way home. Go on, you earned it!

Tollymore Forest / Glenariff Forest Park

If you’re looking for some picture perfect picnic spots that will suit the whole family with a range of walks from leisurely strolls to challenging hikes, then look no further than Tollymore Forest or Glenariff Forest Park.

With scenic views galore, Tollymore Forest boasts streams, tall forests and mountainous views of the Mournes - you’ll really feel like you’ve been transported somewhere else and find yourself asking ‘Is this really Northern Ireland?’. With £5 parking, lots of BBQ spots and walks available for all ages and fitness levels, this is a no-brainer for a sunny day. If your cooler box is only stocked with Slamwiches for the trip - we won’t blame you!

If forest vibes are what you love but you’ve spent your entire upbringing at Tollymore - why not try out the lesser spotted Glenariff Forest Park. With over 1000 hectares to explore, this is a great way to take in nature with fewer folks around. Don’t forget to check out the gorgeous waterfall walk, sit up on the stone wall and take in the views of the valley expanding all the way out to the ocean, showing only blue skies and green fields as far as the eye can see! The spectacular glen is one of the Glens of Antrim, and was first formed during the Ice Age from glaciers. So, if you want to see just how magical nature is in action - don’t skip out on this dopamine-heightening hike! With plenty of Spars, Eurospars, Centra’s and Supervalu’s along the way - you know you have time for a petrol pit-stop with a little (or big) side of Slamwich!

Giants Causeway Coastal Route

A Northern Ireland staple, no N.I summer is complete without a trip to the Giant’s Causeway - but this time, let’s add in a few stops to really take in as much as possible. The Carrick-a-rede ropebridge never fails to disappoint and allows you to take in a full 360-view of just how gorgeous a Northern Ireland summer can be! Think turquoise waters and stunning cliffs.

If you want to get a little bit of beach in your day, Murlough Bay and Ballintoy Harbour offer the perfect respite to chill out and take in the fresh sea air - which, coincidentally, is also great for tiring out energetic kids! When they finally conk out in the car, now is your perfect opportunity to grab an indulgent snack. Look, we’ll not mention it again (okay, maybe once more) - but it should probably be Slamwich. If you’re hungry for more and have no kids in tow - the Gobbins Cliff Path offers a fun and exhilarating way to see the coast. Don your hard hat and high vis and see our coast up close and personal like never before. You might just need a little snack after to take the edge off…

Where can I buy Slamwich on my roadtrip?

That’s a great question! Slamwich can be easily found in the Dale Farm freezer in Spar, Eurospar, Centra and Supervalu. It’s the big red one - you really can’t miss it! You may also find some of our other new ice creams in there such as our yummy Planet Pop, our delicious Duet or Raspberry Swirl cone - along with all the rest of the classics. We know it’ll be a hard choice to make, but we promise you the Slamwich won’t disappoint and it will quickly become your new favourite ice cream. Our freezers are typically situated right at the front door of these stores so they’re easy to grab on the go - just don’t forget to pay for your fuel while you’re dreaming up your first bite!

How to enjoy Slamwich

Slamwich is best enjoyed as a treat - which makes it the perfect reward after a day of activity or a break from work. Slamwich’s delicious ice cream design means there’s no such thing as sticky ice cream fingers and you get the best of both worlds - yummy, creamy ice cream and the crunch of a satisfying biscuit. As if it couldn’t get any better, the caramel crunch just really takes it to another level. But we don’t have to tell you that - just try it yourself. And don’t forget, once you’ve finished your Slamwich, make sure to dispose of the wrapper properly in the bin - no one likes a litter bug.
